LEGO Time Travel

Along the lines of the images below, here's an image about traveling through time and being inspired by the world's great inventions. Click to enlarge.

This is inside a book for a model set. You can buy the actual product here.

I wish I'd taken more screengrabs of the whole process, but I didn't. It started as an illustrator sketch. Rough pencil-tool lines quickly thrown down, with the straight lines of the pen tool, which is useful with something as exacting as redrawing a Lego model. I think I used the model as a base to sketch off of, to keep it exact, but I don't see it in the file.

Schadenfreude Witch

Hmm. I was going thru some old stuff and was wondering if a certain former client was still using the logo I designed. Quick check of their website...they're not still using it, but I did notice something weird...

This is on their homepage. It appears the girl is laying on the floor in a warehouse? And they didn't finish erasing the stack of boxes behind her. LOL

I could make fun of whoever did this, but honestly, they have my pity. Not naming names here, but that client was awful.

LEGO Cars

Similarly to the previous post, this image was to inspire kids to imagine all kinds of cars and vehicles. The original idea was to 'show lots of different kinds of vehicles, LEGO and otherwise.' A few ideas flew around, a parking lot? a traffic jam? Well, it's gotta be fun, so I suggested what if it's a demolition derby with all kinds of Mad Max style cars racing?

If you want, you can buy the set that has the book with this illustration here.

LEGO Creatures

So I spent the last two years working with Lego's MBA program, and since these boxes are released on and on the storeshelves, I think I can at long last share some of it here. This illustration is to show the idea of making up monsters and worlds with Lego as well as just with your own imagination. Click to enlarge...

I'm going to try and roll out some unseen work every day. We'll see how I do with that...

Cthulhu banner

I often get wrapped up in projects and forget to post art. I did a Cthulhu-based card game a year or two ago.  This banner includes is a good example of the art I did a while back for it...I should go through and see what else I absent-mindedly shuffled off into the memory hole.

Bel Air Bomber

Here's a tattoo design I made for a good friend of mine. This was done last year, but I wanted to wait until she'd gotten the ink before I shared it with the world...I'll probably post some of the process later on.

Day of the Dead Banner...

...for my buddy's rock club...

Kill Bill

I made this image for ArtsWorcester's Art on the Line event this week. It will be printed 8x8 inches and I'm only doing a limited run of ten. $20 apiece.

It took a few hours in the afternoon. It's very loose, I wanted to keep the energy very high. Below is the thumbnail idea. Notice that I foreshortened her leg from the original idea. I really like foreshortening, it involves the viewer in the art.

Cthulhu 2

Worked some more on this. I was thinking about making the story more interesting, like maybe the end of the reign of man just happened to interrupt a young couple's make-out session. This version is too 'exploitationey'. I liked the silliness of the bra across the guy's face, but couldn't come up with a way to take it off of her without being really corny. 'Huh-huhuh…boobs' isn't my aim. I'll keep working on it. I'm aiming for something that feels big like this one.

Also of note, I decided on the compositional flow, and am sticking to it. I really like the 'curved thunderbolt' shape, and as soon as I reworked the image into that flow, it came together. The first version (my previous post), really feels like a lump of clay compared to this one. Still just stealing time to work on this, so it's going slow. More to come later.

Did some illustrator sketching this morning

I have this Cthulhu concept that was rejected from an old project. I'm thinking about making it into something. This is really rough and early. I'm going to resketch it a few times before it goes anywhere. Not crazy about the colors just yet either...should the car be fleeing? Or maybe there might be a couple in it, maybe there's some heavy petting going on.
